The Armenian National Anthem presented on the Home Page is sometimes called Armenian Anthem and less frequently Armenian Hymn (singular).

The plural phrase, “Armenian Hymns” generally refers to Armenian Chants, Sharakan in Armenian language. The  Armenian Church uses these Chants in their liturgy.

The earliest manuscripts with music notation date from the 14th century.

They are sung to a precise rhythm , such as the Gregorian Chant.
